This course takes you on a journey through the ideas that have shaped our democracy. You will begin with the core values of liberty, equality, and democracy, and see how they evolved into global ideologies like liberalism, socialism, communism, and conservatism. You will then turn to India’s story — from the freedom struggle, where thinkers like Gandhi, Ambedkar, Nehru, and others offered different visions for the nation, to the post-independence years of state-building, social movements, and identity politics. Finally, you will look at the era of liberalization, Hindutva, and new social movements, exploring how these forces continue to shape India’s political life today. Through this course, you’ll see how ideas became movements — and how those movements continue to define the India we live in.
